The rights of all citizens to access public information is an integral function of our museum. The Saline County Historical Society & Museum is committed to making websites, exhibits, and services accessible to all.
Some users may not be able to see, hear or process information in particular formats, may have difficulty reading or understanding text, or may not be able to use a keyboard or a mouse. We have developed our content to ensure compatibility with common adaptive technologies by utilizing the State of Missouri’s Accessibility Standard, which is based on Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (as amended) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2.

Please provide your contact information, the URL (i.e., link or web address) of the material and the problem you’ve experienced. We’ll respond with the information you are seeking as well as ensure the accessibility issue is corrected. We will continue to review and update our websites to ensure compliance with current and future standards.
What web accessibility is
An accessible site allows visitors with disabilities to browse the site with the same or a similar level of ease and enjoyment as other visitors. This can be achieved with the capabilities of the system on which the site is operating, and through assistive technologies.
Accessibility adjustments on this site
We have adapted this site in accordance with WCAG 2.2 guidelines, and have made the site accessible to the level of AA though we are striving toward AAA. This site's contents have been adapted to work with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and keyboard use. As part of this effort, we have also:
-
Used the Accessibility Wizard to find and fix potential accessibility issues
-
Set the language of the site
-
Set the content order of the site’s pages
-
Defined clear heading structures on all of the site’s pages
-
Added alternative text to images
-
Implemented color combinations that meet the required color contrast
-
Reduced the use of motion on the site
-
Ensured all videos, audio, and files on the site are accessible
Accessibility arrangements at SCHS
Our building is more than 100 years old and it is actively being brought up to ADA compliance standards for all floors of the museum. In the interim, all museum activities take place on our first floor which is ramped, but accessible from the ground floor/ outdoor sidewalk. We have parking on the north and west sides of our building including placard parking for those needing extra assistance. Our Main Street sidewalks are ramped for ease of use. We have double doors for extra wide entrance and staff on site can assist with door opening. Our main floor is spacious and all exhibits are the required width for easy passing of wheelchairs and other assistive devices. Our bathroom is single stall, on the main floor, accessible to all without special permission, and it has a wide berth to the side of the toilet with handles for easy transfer. We are excited to be able to offer audio visual tours of our museum in the near future as we expand our offerings for all patrons. It is our eventual goal to provide elevator service to the basement and second floor of our museum, but those areas are not open to the public yet.
